The Final Post

This is the culmination of my other four videos. It begins in a more urban environment, typically showing off various light fixtures. The video then shifts to more nature oriented imagery. There is a notably more still images in the nature portion of the video. There is not an obvious theme or concept I was aiming for other than to capture the feel of night time in both city and nature. Lastly, I'd like to state that the church you see briefly at the end terrified me. Going to an abandoned church after midnight by yourself is a rater unnerving experience, hence why none of the pictures of it are very close up.

Lost in the Woods

My concept for this video was to have someone walking through the woods by themselves at night and get progressively more and more lost. As they get lost, they panic until the film ends in chaos. I used rhythmic editing to make the shots increasingly shorter as the person starts to panic and at the end I cut in a bunch of black screens to increase the tension on screen.

Those Blurry Nights

The concept behind it was to shoot the viewpoint of someone wandering the streets at night while very tired, delirious, or for whatever reason not quite all in their head. Therefore the imagery is very blurry and disorienting, but you can roughly tell what is going on around them. I got some shots by walking while shooting or just shaking the camera then cutting the clips up to make it jumpier. I am particularly proud of the sequence with the cars wizzing through an intersection because I sat on a median in-between the traffic lanes for about a half an hour just taking picture after picture then I put them all together to imply motion.

Radio Towers

I tried to center these shots around a set of broadcasting towers. You can see them blinking in the background in most of the shots except for the one of the street lamp. I particularly like the blinking arrow on the parking garage in the beginning of the video.

Urban Stroll

This video revolves around just concept of simply wandering around for a pleasant stroll at night. I used some lens flares in this video as well. I like the shots of the flashing arrow on the parking garage. I used all video clips in this video as opposed to still images I usually use in other videos.

Drift #2 Strategy

For my last drift strategy I attempted to go East as far as possible, which ended miserably. So instead for this drift, I chose a less static approach. I brought along a penny and flipped it every two blocks I walked, heads was right and tails was left. I stuck to this until I saw a park and decided to take a detour through there. I emerged at Park St and decided to walk a bike path down below street level. From there I emerged on North and Oakland, flipped my coin and continued heading on my path until I got to UW-Milwaukee's Riverwest building and recorded sounds on the bus ride home. I also recorded some sounds while I was in Chicago that turned out rather well and I'll definitely be using those in my final product.

For my images I took some while just walking around Milwaukee. I knew I wanted to get images of roughly cut together images of nightlife that would imply motion for one video. The other video I just knew would end up being on the creepy side. I thought about going with the theme of voyerism, and I still might but at the time of this writing it needs a few more elements.
